When robotics softens healthcare: Miroki takes the stage at ICM with the support of Altrad Solidarity

A world first in Montpellier!

👦👧 In the pediatric radiotherapy unit at ICM, a very special robot is now supporting young patients:
✨ Expressive face, gentle voice, smooth movements
✨ Reassuring interaction during often stressful treatments
✨ Result: shorter sessions, better cooperation, and relieved caregivers

🤝 This project is led by Dr. Julien Welmant. The robot, named Miroki, is the result of a partnership signed on Monday, June 16, between ICM and the Altrad Group through its endowment fund Altrad Solidarity, which will support the project for three years — from pilot to clinical evaluation — with a €600,000 commitment.

🔬 In collaboration with Enchanted Tools, the University of Montpellier, Saint-Étienne, and CNRS, a rigorous scientific assessment is underway.

🌏 The impact is already sparking interest — a hospital in Tokyo is keen to adopt it.
