Update - Women’s Empowerment Program – Altrad Nigeria

Back in July, we informed you about the Altrad support in Nigeria for a local Rehabilitation and Training Centre in Lagos that supports destitute, mentally and physically challenged women. Altrad committed to supporting the program through giving them the opportunity through training and education to better their lives.

We are delighted to say that the initial cohort is “live” and running with the students being trained will in gardening, landscaping, catering and crafting skills with the goal to give them the tools to become economically independent and find a valued place in society.

Maya Omar country manager for Nigeria commented: “We are delighted that the first course is up and running and going really well with the ladies studying sewing, catering and gardening. The trainees are already producing their own products which is fantastic to see, and the facilitators are fully engaged and showing real commitment with their classes. We will then be assisting the ladies to advertise their products as they continue their training”.

This is the first phase of a multi-phase programme in Nigeria, that will also be rolled out in Port Harcourt and Bonny as we move into 2022.

Congratulations to all involved in turning what was a great idea into a reality that will have a huge positive impact on the local community.
