Kerala Flood Altrad Team Support

Floods in Kerala, India

The recent tragedy of torrential rains in Kerala, Southern India, the worst for over 100 years, caused devastating floods and mudslides that resulted in significant loss of life, and with over one million people displaced because of catastrophic property damage, this tragic event is something that the Altrad Middle East business unit took to heart.

Kerala has always been a crucial area for employment of skilled workers for the Middle East business for over 35 years, and as such a number of employees and their families have been directly impacted by the tragedy.

The Altrad Middle East team quickly rallied around their colleagues and put together a fund to support those in immediate need, collecting in excess of $62,000 to provide relief for their colleagues and the wider affected community.

“The generosity and support that our teams show to their colleagues never ceases to amaze me and has been evident before with other tragic events!”

“It never ceases to amaze me the generosity and support that our teams show to their colleagues, which has been evident before with the tragic events in Nepal and the Philippines where the teams rallied to support those in need, and now again to support their colleagues in Kerala. The devastation that people have suffered in terms of loss of loved ones and property is difficult to comprehend, and it is quite overwhelming to see how our people continually support each other. I also have to say a big thank you to Mr. Altrad and Mr. Huetz for their generosity in matching the collection, bringing the fund to $122,000” Commented Steve Connolly the Managing Director for the Middle East and Caspian business commented

“We are a people business with people being our greatest asset”

“It is crucial that we stand together with our Kerala colleagues in their hour of need and this is a key element of the values and culture of the Altrad organisation; we are a people business with people being our greatest asset, and whilst this is a tragic occurrence, the generosity of the Middle East is truly remarkable and something we feel very strongly about wholeheartedly supporting as a group”

A significant part of the fund has been given directly to Altrad employees affected by the flood to support them as they start to rebuild their lives, whilst the balance of the fund will be donated to the Chief Ministers Distress Relief Fund that will bring immediate relief to the wider Kerala population.
