Altrad Community Woodland comes to life

In line with the Altrad Group Sustainability Program and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of “Climate Action” and also “Quality Education”, we are delighted to announce that the trees have now been planted at the “Altrad Community Woodland” in Wheldrake, Yorkshire, England.

The perimeter fencing and blackthorn hedging along with the groundworks was the first stage of the project and now the main planting has been undertaken by members of the local community, Natural England volunteers and importantly children from the local Wheldrake and Thorganby Pre School.

The Altrad owned site is adjacent to the Altrad York Linings facility, and will see around 600 trees planted, supported by The Woodland Trust. The location features a circular footpath and wildflower areas and will include bird and bat boxes with its location adjacent to neighbouring farmland and woodland being a haven for local fauna and flora.

Paudie Somers Altrad UK CEO commented

“This is a fantastic project for us to be involved in which supports our environmental drive to a net zero carbon business. It also creates a long-term legacy for the local community that can be enjoyed by future generations. I would like to thank in particular Darren Calvert of Altrad York Linings, and also the local community for their commitment to supporting this project”

Ran Oren Altrad Group CEO commented

“The UK team has shown incredible passion for this project which we are very proud of. It is schemes like this that are extremely important to Altrad, something that supports our commitment to our goals and values, and the wider community. This is the first of many such projects that we plan to support in the future where we can involve young people and the community, working with the likes of The Woodland Trust to tackle climate change”
